Srinagar: Prof Shakil A Romshoo, Head of Kashmir Universitys Department of Earth Sciences, has been honoured with the Indian Society of Geomatics (ISG) Presidents Appreciation Medal 2015.
The Medal was presented to Prof Romshoo by the Director ISRO Satellite Centre for developing, promoting and popularizing use of Geomatics for earth and environmental sciences in India.
The award ceremony, attended by a galaxy of space scientists and distinguished academics from the ISROand various other national instituteswas held at Jaipur on 16thDecember to honor distinguished scientists with the National Geomatics Awards for their significant contribution in the field of Space Technology application and development.
The Presidents Appreciation Award carries a Medal, a Citation and a Cash reward.
The Department of Earth Sciences, under the leadership of Prof Romshoo, has emerged as an important center of research and education in the field of space technology applications at the national and international level.
The Department has obtained the status of Collaborating Partner with the ISRO in all the major national research programs on use of space technology for developing societal applications. It has, during the last 10 years, successfully completed about a dozen cutting-edge research programs in the field of space technology and developed various applications for the use and promotion of space technology in various disciplines of earth and environmental sciences.
