Srinagar: In a special drive against traffic violators, traffic department on Friday seized a number of official vehicles without proper documents in Srinagar.
According to sources, the vehicles include that of ARTO Budgam Manzoor Ahmad, a close aid of a cabinet minister and a bus of SKIMS.
They said that the driver of ARTOs official vehicle was driving without a seatbelt and did not possess the required documents.
The vehicles were seized near Peerbagh where special naka was laid by SSP Traffic Rural.
Besides, these vehicles the authorities also seized a number of private vehicles for lack of various documents.
When Contacted SSP Rural Traffic, Shailendra Mishra said that number of vehicles was seized, however, he feigned ignorance about the seizure of official vehicles except SMIKS bus.
The department will continue with the drive and so as to ensure no violations of traffic rules, SSP said.
Meanwhile, the locals hailed the action by police, saying law was equal for all.
When drivers of official vehicles are driving without seatbelt, people automatically question it and as a result stop using it themselves even as it is for safety purpose, Basharat Ahmad, a local said.
Another person, Shakeel Ahmad said that police should continue with such drives and implement laws in proper sense which would automatically benefit all.
