SRINAGAR: In a move to boost LoC trade, business leaders of Jammu and Kashmir are meeting in Dubai today with top officials of India and Pakistan to discuss and attempt to remove bottlenecks in carrying out the trade.
The traders are scheduled to raise issues of communication, banking facilities, customs, travel, road and aerial connectivity at the meeting. Since the LoC trade was started in 2008, absence of these facilities has been main hindrance in smooth flow of trade commodities and transaction of business.
From the state, six trade union leaders delegation which is headed by Y V Sharma, former president of Joint Chamber of Commerce, J &K, have left for Dubai today to participate in the vital meeting.
Others top trade union leaders from Kashmir include Mohammad Yasin Khan, Chairperson Kashmir Economic Alliance; Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, president Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries; Mohammad Ashraf Mir, president Federation Chamber of Industries Kashmir.
And from Jammu, President Cross LoC Trade, Chakan-da-Bagh, Pawan Anand, President Joint Chamber of Commerce Prakash Gupta are meeting the top officials of the two countries.
Confirming the scheduled meeting, Chief Spokesperson of KEA Siraj Ahmad said that the meeting is important as far as boosting and revitalizing economy of the state is concerned especially post floods.
The meeting between trade union leaders and top officials of India and Pakistan is an important move towards confidence building as far as trade is concerned. It is aimed at boosting and enhancing trade between LoC traders, Ahmad said.
He said the participants will discuss the possibility of making LoC a free trade zone for promotion of economy.
It is for the first time that top officials of India and Pakistan are meeting with the traders of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss problems being faced by the traders of the state.
