Army tour: Girl students continue to face on-line flak

Share

Srinagar:  The Kashmiri girl students who returned from tour organized by Indian Army have been facing ‘intense’ online flak after their photographs and videos appeared on social networking sites including facebook and Whatsapp.

As per Army statement thirty girl students from Kothibagh, Nishat and Raj Bagh Higher Secondary Schools were on 10 days Army tour who not only visited historical places but also met political leaders including president of India.

The photographs and videos of these girls are being uploaded on social networking sites while users are busy in taking a dig on these girls and their parents over the said tour.

Both facebook and whatsapp users according to CNS are criticizing this tour. Some of them are blaming Hurriyat, clerics and religious scholars for the ‘mess’ arguing that they did nothing to reach out to the parents of these girls. “It was the responsibility of the so called Hurriyat leaders to reach out to the parents of the students. There is a dire need to educate people over the ‘side effects’ of such tours,” a social user reacted to the video after it was uploaded repeatedly on Whatsapp groups.

“See these girls. They don’t know what they are doing. Boys of Kashmir are giving blood and these girls with Army are selling the same,” a facebook user responded to a post relating to the tour of these girls with Army.

“Kashmiri society has been witnessing too much degradation. I am sorry to say but this is true. We are all sailing in the same boat. Our leaders are after money, religious preachers are corrupt and we take pleasure in mundane affairs,” wrote another user.

Majority of the facebook users are expressing surprise over the silence maintained by Geelani and Mirwaiz led Hurriyat factions. “Where is Geelani who threatened BSNL over so called obscene text messaging,” wrote a user.

Although majority of the users criticized these girls, but there are many who appreciated them and even asked the others to be positive. “Instead of uploading the photographs of these girls, why don’t you directly talk to their parents? Let us leave gender bias and give the girls a chance to bloom,” wrote a netizen.

Even though the girls have returned from the tour and they even shared their positive experience with the reporters during a function held at Badamibagh on Wednesday, the users continue to upload pictures on social media and discus the subject with full vigour.
