Education System Improvement: Align needs, skills and qualifications

I have written this literary piece in connection with the faulty education system in Jammu and Kashmir. Everyone is presenting his views regarding the faulty education system and the ways to strengthen it. To some extent, government and non-governmental organizations are showing their interest and guts in making our education system robust. Recently, the education ministry of J&K has tightened screws in making our education system accountable. But how far they have succeeded in this is a question mark? The entire exercise  needs very high level approach and attention, so that we will be able to strengthen our education system and our students too will become intellectually, morally, mentally, and socially fit to compete with the students of other States. No doubt Our education minister, Mr Nayeem Akhter right from the start has made a remarkable use of his portfolio of education ministry and I appreciate that by my heart. Not only i am appreciating his efforts, everybody is appreciating his remarkable work and efforts regarding the strengthening of education system of J&K.

The utmost need of the hour is that we  strengthen our education system through fair and transparent recruitment of teachers with due care. For Example ,if the education department of J&K advertises 100 posts against 100 vacancies, they should make it clear that how many teachers they need for  each subject while advertising posts. For example out of 100 vacancies, there is a need of 20 posts in science,30 in Urdu and 50 in English, they should make it compulsory that that if science subject needs 20 teachers,t hen these 20 posts should be limited to only science background applicants and accordingly of other subjects. By this way we can fill up the subject vacancies accordingly with the subject experts who have their masters degrees and other degrees in that subject. What we have seen while advertising teacher posts by education department, they made only one eligibility for these posts that  is, candidate should be at least graduates ,then they examine them and on the basis of examination and a merit of a candidate, hey issue the selection list. This is actually the biggest obstacle in our education system. If the authorities, at the time of framing  the selection list,  will frame the selection list according to the subject vacancies, we can make our education system a good one.

Other way by which we can make our education system worthy and qualitative one is that there should be separate advertisements, written examinations and selections of candidates as subject experts for the vacancies in each subject, so that we will be able to impart quality education.  mean if there are posts for science subject, then applications should be accepted only from science students who have their masters and other degrees in that subject and accordingly of other subjects. In most of the schools i have personally seen that if there are for example 5 teachers,4 are from science background and 1 is from other background and then these teachers compromise with each other which is sheer injustice with the students. So our education system needs some technical, intellectual and highly qualified frame-workers to modify and strengthen it as per the needs of the students. In this way we can produce budding intellectuals.
