NEW DELHI: Opposition Monday said the country has been betrayed by the government with regard to the secret National Security Advisor(NSA) level meeting held in Bangkok at a time when innocent civilians and soldiers are being killed along the Line of Control and the International Border by Pakistani troops.
“Cricket match is taking place in Dubai, talks are taking place in Bangkok, and firing is taking place across border. It seems the country is being betrayed,” said Janata Dal(United) leader K. C. Tyagi.
Mufti hopes Bangkok will set tone for dialogue
Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Monday welcomed talks between National Security Advisors (NSAs) of India and Pakistan in Bangkok, hoping it will set the tone for reconciliation between the two neighbouring countries.
He stressed upon the need to reducing trust deficit and favoured sustained and meaningful dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad. It is a good beginning. I am happy that bilateral talks between NSAs of India and Pakistan were held quietly, said Mufti, while talking to media persons during his extensive tour of the winter capital to review progress on developmental projects.
The Chief Minister exuded confidence that fresh round of talks will help in preparing ground for engaging the two sides at a higher level, which will help in carrying forward peace and reconciliatory moves to embed political stability in the region, especially Jammu & Kashmir.
Need Bold Steps, Not Mere Talks: Geelani
Commenting over the meeting of National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan in Bangkok and their agreement to take forward the talks, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani said that no conscience person can be averse to dialogue process but it will be wise to first look at causes of failures of the talks which are going on from last 6 decades between the two countries and a serious efforts should be made to address those causes which are creating problems in establishing the trust and pleasant relationship between the two nations.
He said that until India and Pakistan take bold steps in resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with wishes and sacrifices of its people, we can neither expect any breakthrough from talks in future nor can it bring any considerable change in mutual relationship of the two countries.
Involvement of Kashmiris must: Shah
Welcoming talks between the National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan in Bangkok, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah on Monday said until Kashmiris are not taken on board, the dialogue between the two nations will not yield any meaningful results.”Though the talks between Indo-Pak NSAs in Bangkok will have positive impact on the relations between the two nations, the leadership of both countries should not forget that until the prime stakeholders – the Kashmiris – aren’t involved in dialogue process, they cannot reach any meaningful conclusion,” Shabir Ahmad Shah said in a statement issued to press.
Shah said for the resolution of Kashmir issue, it is imperative upon India to accept the Kashmir as a dispute. He said it is a fact that this issue is to be resolved through the implementation of UN resolutions or through tripartite dialogue.
Make dialogue process interruptible: Tarigami
Appreciating the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Paris followed by Indo-Pak NSAs meet on Sunday in Bangkok, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has hoped the two neighbouring countries will work together to make dialogue process interruptible.
Tarigami urged the leadership of India and Pakistan to address the requirements of the future rather than focussing on the hangover of the past. He said that there is a dire need of constructive engagement that can reduce the level of mistrust in both countries.
The CPI (M) leader observed that the hostility and animosity had been inculcated in young minds in both countries and the leaderships of both the countries must now decide to make a break with the past and enter a new era of peace, political stability and prosperity in the region.
