SRINAGAR: Amid apprehensions fuelled by a barrage of news reports that snowfall may occur on 9th of this month, officials said that a weak Western Disturbance was hovering over Kashmir Valley and it was likely to result in light to moderate rainfall.

“We are likely to witness rainfall on 10th and 11th,” Director MeT, Sonam Lotus  said adding there was a low chance of snowfall.

“I cannot say for certain that there would be no snowfall but if rainfall persists throughout the night, we might see one,” he said, adding that chances of snowfall were still least.

Kashmir valley is going through an intense spell of cold weather. Parts of Kashmir including tourist resorts like Gulmarg and Pahalgam registered sub-zero temperatures. However, on Tuesday, temperatures witnessed a slight improvement. Two weeks ago, smog like conditions prevailed over Kashmir leading experts to flag the development as alarming.
