Srinagar: Amid shutdown in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Anantnag districts activists of Tehreek Sout-ul-Awalia Monday staged a protest here seeking stringent punishment to the Hindu Maha Sabha president Kamlesh Tiwari for making  ‘blasphemous’ remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

According to the eyewitnesses, a protest march a complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama district against the blasphemous remarks by a Hindu zealot. Hundreds of people took out a march from Washbugh area that culminated in main chowk Pulwama. Amid anti-RSS, anti-Hindu Mahasabha, ‘Death to Tiwari’ and pro-Islamic slogans the protesters clashed with police that used tear smoke shells to disperse them. The protesters who demanded severe punishment to Tiwari pelted stones on the government forces near Rajpora Chowk. All the shops and business establishments, educational institutions remained shut to protest against the blasphemous remarks of the Hindu zealot.

A massive protest was also staged in Kakapora Pulwama where scores of youth blocked the traffic and burnt tryres on the road. All the shops and business establishments remained shut in the area.

A partial shutdown was also observed in Anantnag district. The call for the shutdown and protest was given by Islamic organization Sout-ul-Awalia. Reports said that the activists of Sout-ul-Awalia also staged a protest in Press Enclave. The protesters said that Kamlesh Tiwari the culprit should be hanged for making anti-Islamic remarks. “Mere arresting him is not going to solve any problem. It has become routine for some anti-Islamic elements to hurt the sentiments of Muslims all over the globe. If he is not booked and caged, we will come on roads on daily basis,” Maulana Abdul Qayoom told CNS. He said that the Hindutva leader has crossed all limits this time. It is a direct attack on Muslims and their religious beliefs. “Prophet Muhammad is our supreme leader and no Muslim can tolerate His insult. This man deserves death sentence and that is what we demand from the government.”

Pertinently, Tiwari has already been arrested by Lucknow Police who allegedly passed derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Lucknow Uttar Pradesh.
