Now NC MLA Says, ‘We Want Freedom’

SRINAGAR: A day after senior National Conference leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamal demanded independence for Kashmir, party MLA from South Kashmir Monday declared that Kashmir was in no way the integral part of India.

NC legislator from Homshalibugh constituency Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi shortly after the culmination of anti-government protests in Kulgam told reporters that “financial packages can’t resolve Kashmir issue and the party is with the people who demand freedom from India”.

“We are with Independent Kashmir. Even our leader Omar Abdullah on the floor of the House maintained that the ‘accession’ of Kashmir with India is temporary and not permanent,” Larmi said.

Responding to a question, Larmi according to CNS, said, “Independent Kashmir is the only option that could guarantee peace in the Sub-Continent.” “In fact, both parts of Kashmir held by India and Pakistan should be given independence. Whether in power or out of power we continued to maintain that accession of Kashmir with India was conditional and not permanent,” he added.

When asked Education Minister Naeem Akhtar has said that “Kashmir is an integral part of India”, Larmi asserted, “Akhtar is not representative of people and he is not an elected member. Whatever he says are his personal views as he has not been elected by people. The fact is that Kashmir is not an integral part of India.”

Earlier Kamal, the brother of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah, expressed disgust against both the regimes of New Delhi and Islamabad, and opined that only freedom could deliver true justice to the people of valley.

“By heart, both of them do not treat us as their own. Neither India nor Pakistan loves us…. In my opinion, Allah has destined independence for us and we will get it,” he said after paying tributes to his father Shiekh Muhammad Abdullah, the founder of National Conference, on his 110th birth anniversary.

Kamal recalled the tenure of Farooq Abdullah as the chief minister and his proclamation of being a true Indian. “Following the 1996 assembly elections, my brother had said that he could tear his heart out to show that he is a true Indian. But they (New Delhi) will never believe him. The same is the case with Pakistan, they will never accept us. Allah has kept us destined for freedom,” he added.
