Srinagar: At least five CRPF jawans were injured when unidentified militants on Monday morning opened fire on their convoy on Srinagar-Jammu highway in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Militants fired at a CRPF bus, which was part of a convoy on way to Jammu from Srinagar, near Green Tunnel at Samthan in Bijbehara area, a police official said.

He said six CRPF jawans were injured in the attack.

However a CRPF spokesman Ashish Kumar Jha said that three militants in army fatigues suddenly appeared from nearby fields at Sangam at 10.AM and fired volley of bullets on CRPF convoy.

“It was some sort of a fidayeen attack on the convoy. The militants had planned a proper and big attack on our security forces. But due to alertness of the CRPF Road Opening Patrol and also those men in the convoy, the attack was repulsed,” Jha said.

The spokesman said that the injured were shifted to Army base hospital in Badami Bagh, Srinagar. “All of the injured men are stable after treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen while claiming the responsibility of the attack on CRPF convoy said that its “Border Squad” destroyed an Army post on Monday morning when they fired ‘107’ brand missile at Dara Sherkhan Tathapani in Poonch Sector.

Burhanuddin, spokesperson Hizb told CNS on phone that two to three militants targeted a CRPF convoy in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir on Monday. “At least 8 CRPF personnel were injured and most of them are battling for life in hospitals,” he said and appealed people to maintain distance from Indian Security Bunkars, vehicles and deployment.

“The militants in the field have been directed to intensify attacks on Indian Security establishments. The attacks will continue till India doesn’t leave Kashmir,” he said.

The Hizb spokesperson claimed that at least three Army personnel were killed and four were injured after Hizb militants launched a missile (107) attack on an Army post at Dara Sherkhan Tathapani in Poonch Sector of Jammu region. “The Army post was completely destroyed in the attack. Militants managed to reach their destination safely,” he said.  –With inputs from CNS, KNS
