Leopard kills boy, shot dead

Share

Srinagar: A man-eater leopard was shot dead by Wild Life Department after it killed a 16 year old youth in Avil Dumhal Hanjipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday night.

Eyewitnesses said that a leopard barged into the premises of a house in Avil area and attacked a 16 year old boy. “The boy Showkat Ahmed Gorsi was mauled by the leopard who died on spot. Shortly after the incident we immediately deputed a team that located and shot dead the man-eater leopard,” Wild Life Warden for South Kashmir Muhammad Sadiq Mir said.

While terming the death of boy as unfortunate, Mir said that Wild Life Department lacks manpower is thus is unable to prevent such incidents. “There are 80 persons deployed in South Kashmir’s four districts. It needs man power to curb wild animals that thrive on the blood of humans,” he said. (CNS)
