Draft agri plan for Sangrama

JAMMU: Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari  Monday reviewed the draft action plan formulated by the Agriculture Production Department for overall development and economic progress of Sangrama constituency, in a meeting he chaired here.

Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, Mr. M A Bukhari and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.

Earlier, in a meeting in August this year, the Minister had directed the Department to formulate an action plan based on field survey of areas requiring attention.

The Minister said that Sangrama constituency has high agricultural potential which is required to be exploited to the full. He said in order to help people avail benefit of various state and centrally sponsored schemes available with the department, regular awareness camps should be organised in the constituency especially in areas with specific potential. He further directed the department to carry out soil assessment to identify the soil type, fit for specific crops and fruits in these areas, so that they could be developed as clusters or zones like shallot zone, garlic zone and similar fruit specific clusters. He said that the initiative will help the farmers and horticulturalists achieve better production.

The interventions highlighted in the plan include promotion of traditional high value varieties of paddy, better irrigation facilities for promoting maize production, introduction of area specific hybrid varieties of vegetables and protected cultivation. The document also focuses on promotion of organic manuring and improving soil health.
