Anantnag – The lone hospital in Bijbehara, Chief Ministers hometown is a vtell tale sign of states health care system. It also mocks at the media outlets which conferred J&K with award for having best health care system in India recently.

Despite protests, the Health Department has remained unmoved and has not replaced the defunct machinery in the diagnostic centre of the hospital.

The department has not replaced the X-Ray machine nor has it fixed the problem in ultra-sound apparatus.

According to hospital sources, Sub- District Hospital Bijbehara sans almost all the latest healthcare equipments due to which people, particularly Bijbehara residents have to travel to Anantnag or Srinagar for such examination.

Recently, 23 years old lady died after delivering a dead baby due to non- availability round the clock Operation Theatre there. Ironically the deceased, a gynecology patient was attended by a dermatologist.

Although as reported earlier by this newspaper, the lady doctor insisted that she was forced to attend night duties but so far no action against the staff and medical superintend who is, according to locals responsible for the mess has been taken.

Earlier, a youth Mukhtar Ahmad also died in the hospital because of the non-availability of proper  facilities. A few days ago, in a novel way, Bijbehara Citizen’s Forum hoisted a banner on the front gate of Sub-District Hospital, declaring it a Community Health Center.

“In a hospital where dermatologists are attending Gynecology patients can’t be but a community center,” Bijbehara residents told Kashmir Observer.

Aarif Ahmad, a local resident said that it is unfortunate that their protests against the authorities and health department go unnoticed. He said that people will intensify the protests if department failed to provide the basic faculty and facilities to the hospital.
