Illicit distillation hubs raided, 3500 Kg of Lahan destroyed

JAMMU:  On the instructions of the Minister for Finance, Dr. Haseeb Drabu, Excise Commissioner, J&K, T. Angchuk and under active supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner, (Executive), Jammu, Mohammed Shahid Saleem, Excise Sleuths conducted series of raids in district Kathua to arrest menace of illicit distillation of liquor.  In the process 2500 Kg Lahan and ten bottles of illicit liquor were destroyed in villages Dhabwal, Tanda, Budhi, Lower Sakta Chak and Upper Sakta Chak and adjoining areas. Similar raids were also conducted in other areas of Jammu Division to arrest the menace.

Meanwhile the Department has also started a campaign against overcharging. The Department has tightened its noose on liquor parties being celebrated in different parts of State without obtaining permission from the Excise Department.

All Hotels and Banquet hall operators have been warned of strict action in case any violation is noticed. The Department has initiated multi-pronged strategy to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor and overcharging and inspection teams have been activated and there shall be no laxity for those who violate the law.
