Cop stones magistrate’s house

 Poonch: A mob led by a policeman stoned the house of a magistrate in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district late last night leaving three of his family members injured.

Sources said that Head Constable Riyaz Ahmad-led mob stoned the house of Sub Judge/Special Mobile Magistrate Kathua, Naushad Ahmad Khan at Dargalon village of Balakote in Mendhar.

The stoning of the house resulted in injuries to the magistrate’s mother Anjum Bi, his brother Javaid Ahmad Khan and Javaid’s wife, Tasleema Akhtar. The house and cars parked inside the compound were also damaged.

Sources said the family immediately informed police and a party of cops led by SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nayeem rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. Sources said that the policeman is “jealous” as magistrate’s family is well-off and educated. They further said that the policeman wants to grab the state land which is just near the house of magistrate. “In the past, he made several failed attempts to grab it,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against policeman and nine other people but no one has been arrested so far. “A case under FIR number 10 under sections 124, 451, 323, 336, 147, 427, 504 and 506 has been registered in police station Gursai,” the police sources informed. The cop is currently posted at Ramban police station as Munshi. (GNS)
