HANDWARA: Two militants and an Army man from 21 RR died during a gun fight in North Kashmirs frontier district on Friday.
Reports said that government forces including the Army personnel from 21 RR, Special Operation Group of Police and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned off a particular area in Watsar Bhuvan forests in Handwara after receiving information about the presence of three to four militants there.
Reports said that soon after the cordon, militants fired upon Government Forces that resulted in the death of an Army soldier while another received bullet wounds and was immediately shifted to Army Hospital.
According to the Srinagar based Defense Spokesperson Colonel NN Joshi during the retaliatory process, two militants were killed. The bodies of the militants have not been identified yet while the wounded soldier is undergoing treatment and is stable. We lost one of our soldiers during the gunfight, he said adding that two more militants are believed to be still present in the area.

DIG police north Kashmir, Gareeb Das said that joint team of forces launched cordon-and-search operation in Bhawen forest area since last four days following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of some militants.
Today in the afternoon, the forces intercepted the militant group in the dense bushes, resulting into an encounter, DIG said.
In the initial exchange of firefight, two soldiers received bullet wounds and were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment, DIG said.
However, one among the two injured soldiers succumbed to injuries, he said.
As the exchange of fire continued intermittently till 5:30 pm and subsequently the militants hiding inside the bushes tried to break the cordon, however, the forces engaged the militant group in the gunfight.
Two militants have been killed so far and the bodies along with the as many AK-47 rifles and other war like stores including UBGL were recovered from their possession, DIG said.
Pertinently, the militant group had managed to give slip to the joint team of forces on November 21 in the upper belt of Bhawan forests, the sources said.
