Rifle Snatching Bid

Srinagar: Police today slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on a youth who last month attempted to snatch rifle from a Railway policeman at Wanpoh in Kulgam district.

Official sources said that the PSA has been slapped on Tariq Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Redwani in Kulgam. In an attempt to snatch his rifle, the youth on November 10 had sprinkled chilli powder into the eyes of a Railway Cop namely Tinku Khushwaha at Wanpoh Railway Station and subsequently attacked him with a butcherÂ’s knife.

Though the cop was seriously injured but the youth was nabbed by other cops along with the rifle and foiled his attempt to flee from the spot. The youth was immediately taken into custody and today the PSA was slapped on him and he has been shifted to Kathua Jail. (GNS)
