Share

Srinagar:  A family from Chek Bagh Nigeen in the outskirts of Srinagar staged protest demonstration for the consecutive second day in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that some influential people have been using a police official to grab a portion of land from them for the construction of a lane in the area.

The protesting family members mostly women alleged that a police official has been harassing them after they refuse to provide a portion of their land for the construction of a lane in the area. “The Police Official is supporting some locals of the area and yesterday he thrashed us resulting in the injuries of both male and female’s members of our family,” Kulsuma Banoo said.

“A Lane is being constructed in the area and some locals have been forcing us to cede a portion of land. They are using a police official to pressurize us. We appeal State Government especially Director General of Police to look inot the matter,” said Ghulam Muhammad Kathh.

When contacted, Station House Officer Nigeen Police Station Zaffar Iqbal told CNS that there is a dispute over the construction of road between the locals and Kathh family. “We called both the parties and asked them to wait for decision that government will take in this regard. There is no question of pressurizing anyone. Our job is to maintain law and order,” he said.
