Stresses effective monitoring of development works

JAMMU: The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) headed by Chief Secretary, B R Sharma Monday, in its 91st meeting gave forest clearance to various proposals to allow use of forest land for developmental purposes.

The FAC reiterated the direction on minimum felling of trees, while Chief Secretary called on the user agencies to ensure plantation of trees along the constructed roads, preferably a mix comprising fast growing and other trees.

Chief Secretary also emphasized effective monitoring of the construction works in the forests. “Forest department must ensure that protection works for slope stability, plantation and eco-restoration of dumping sites is carried by the user agencies as per agreed norms “Sharma said.

Forest Advisory Committee underscored the significance of strict monitoring of the projects undertaken in the fragile forest areas and asked the Forest department to monitor the construction works and report any deviation or complacency observed on ground.
