KVJA castigates police for booking video journalist

Srinagar:  Kashmir Video Journalist Association  Tuesday condemned the filing of a FIR against a local video journalist and a member Of association. Calling the act as an attempt to browbeat the media into silence for reporting the story of  the close aide of Finance Minister who beat up a forest dept official for doing his job.

In a statement t, the VJA said that in an emergency meeting held in the presence of President Shiek Tariq , Vice President Tariq Ahmed Lone  and General Secretary Fayaz Ahmad In  Srinagar, the Video Journalist Association has called upon the police to immediately withdraw the FIR and  stop harassment of media fraternity.

The Association expressed anguish and shock that even after the 4 days when this incident occurred,  the police have failed to register FIR against the Minister’s PRO against whom there is a water tight case and on the other hand the police never bothered to cross check and verify  facts and without wasting a second lodged a FIR against a video journalist who was just performing his professional duties,” the statement read.

The Association has also called upon the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti to personally intervene and restore the confidence of the fourth estate.
