US Prof delivers lecture at Kashmir University

SRINAGAR: The Centre of Central Asian Studies (CCAS), University of Kashmir, on Tuesday organized an extension lecture on ‘Humanism in Islam.’

The lecture was delivered by Prof Ismail Kurban Husein from Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, University of California, Los Angeles, USA on the theme “Humanism in Islam: The Case of the Encyclopaedia of the Brethren of Purity.”

Prof Ismail deliberated on the need of introspection in understanding of Islam in the modern world. He widely talked on the concept of humanism and its understanding through the Holy Scriptures.

Justice (retd) Bashir A Kirmani, member of State Accountability Commission, presided over the function and also delivered the presidential address. He talked at length on various aspects of the theme.

The lecture was attended by several teachers and scholars from different departments of the University.

Prof G N Khaki, Director, CCAS formally welcomed the guests. Dr Abid Gulzar introduced the visiting faculty and conducted the proceedings.
