Srinagar: At least 21 activists of Duktaran-e-Milat were arrested and lodged into police station after they tried to break police cordon at Gojwara area of old Srinagar City on Saturday to participate in Million March.
Eyewitnesses said that scores of DeM activists led by party General Secretary Nahida Nasreen emerged in Gojwara area and tried to proceed toward TRC ground, the venue for separatist sponsored Million March. Police had blocked the road with barbed wires and did not allow DeM activist to cross the barricade who continuously raised anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Reports said that police officials rushed to spot and bundled at least 21 activists into police vehicles and lodged them in police station Nowhatta. Confirming the incident, DeM General Secretary Nahida Nasreen who is being taking care of the organization in absence of detained party chairperson Aasiya Andrabi told CNS that they were barred by police to move towards TRC. Accusing police of restricting the movement of separatist leaders and muzzling their voice, Nasreen said that it is a defeat for the state government that made millions of people hostage to make the Modi rally a successful one. She added that most of the people present in rally were either non-state subjects or were police personnel in civvies.
A police official said that few activists of DeM were arrested after they tried to disrupt peace in the area. He added that the arrested activists have been shifted to Womens Police Station Rambagh. (CNS)
