PDP vehicles attacked in North Kashmir

Srinagar: Shortly before the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, People’s Democratic Party ‘ardent’ supporters from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Saturday abused and shoved non-local labourers to the back rows after they informed media personnel there that they were forcibly brought into the Stadium.

Besides the workers from PDP and BJP, ASHA and Anganwardi workers, Daily rated workers and SPO’s in civvies a good number of non-local labourers from Bihar, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, were also seen in SK Stadium at Sonawar among the audience for the PM’s rally. Non-local laboueres had occupied the front rows adjacent to the place where arrangements for the people from print and electronic media had been made. Spotting non-locals in such a large number scribes interacted with them who alleged that they were forcibly brought there. “We have been staying in a rented house at Barzulla Srinagar. Two Policemen arrived at our house and directed all of us to attend Modi’s rally,” a group of Bihari’s told CNS adding that due to police diktat they could not attend their routine work.

The remarks made by these non-locals irritated some of the ardent supporters of PDP who not only abused them but also shoved them to the back rows. The PDP supporters amid pro-Mufti slogans informed media that they have arrived here at will and they love Mufti and Modi.

Meanwhile, agitated youth attacked a number of vehicles carrying PDP supporters to the rally in Narbal and Ajas Bandipora. A Sarpanch was injured when youth attacked his vehicle and smashed its windshield at Ajas Bandipora. The six number present in the vehicle managed to flee from spot. At Narbal on Srinagar-Baramulla highway too, youth attacked some vehicles carrying people to the rally.

Reports said that at least two dozen private vehicles carrying PDP and PC supporters were attacked at different places including Singhpora Pattan, Palapora Pattan, Sadarkot Bala Sumbal and Dangarpora. Police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the agitated attackers. Eyewitnesses said more than 15 vehicles were damaged in these attacks.  (CNS)
