Man held, shifted to hospital

Srinagar: An alleged over ground worker (OGW) who was arrested by police after a “shootout” in Pulwama main town was today shifted to police hospital here for treatment as he had received a bullet wound.

Police yesterday arrested a burqa-clad man identified as Tariq Ahmad of Dachan village of the district after a “shootout” in bus stand Pulwama that left two civilians, including a woman injured. Police blamed the militants for the firing and claimed that Tariq was an OGW.

However the family and neighbours of Tariq dismissed police allegations and said that the held man is “mentally unfit”.

Meanwhile, official sources said that Tariq who was injured yesterday was brought to SKIMS Soura for treatment and later shifted to police hospital.

“He will be kept under observation at Police Hospital and the questioning would be only started once he recovers,” the sources said. Asked about claims of locals and his family that he is innocent, the sources said: “It would be clear only once he is questioned.” (GNS)
