Charar-e-Sharif: The supporters of Peoples Democratic Party thrashed National Conference workers and seized their Tata-Mobile van carrying electric polls at Hupro Batapora area of  Charar-e-Sharif Constituency.

PDP supporters alleged that the NC candidate for Charar-e-Sharif Constituency is violating Model Code of Conduct and has been forcing officials to provide different items including rice, transformers, electric wires, sanitation pipes and polls free of cost for his voters.

Eyewitnesses told CNS that people mostly PDP supporters intercepted a Tata-Mobile Van (JK04B-0914) near Hupro Batapora on Tuesday night. When they found 9 electric polls in the van, they grabbed the driver and other people inside it who admitted that they are NC workers and these electric polls are meant for different areas to lure voters. “These NC workers admitted that on the directions of NC candidate for Charar-e-Sharif Constituency, Abdul Rahim Rather, PDD officials supplied these electric polls to them,” a PDP worker told CNS.

PDP supporters seized the van and reportedly thrashed the opposite party workers. However, after the intervention of village head, all the NC workers were allowed to leave the village.

Executive Engineer PDD Budgam, Farooq Ahmed Teli told CNS that he has no idea about the issue and doesn’t know where from these people got electric polls. A police official said that they received information that people have seized a van at Hupro area. “We will look into the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDP candidate for Charar-e-Sharif Constituency, Ghulam Nabi Lone Handjoora said that his rival candidate is violating MCC and he has already brought the issue into the notice of Election Commission. He alleged that NC candidate is resorting to all ‘illegal’ means to entice the voters.

NC candidate for Charar-e-Sharif Constituency and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather told CNS that people had purchased these polls from market while some ‘goons’ attacked them and seized their van. “We have registered a complaint and police has lodged an FIR against the assailants,” he said.  (CNS)
