Sagar directs for de-weeding, beautification of Brari Nambal

Srinagar: The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar today directed the officers to ensure the beautification of Brari-Nambal lagoon and its catchment areas on war footing besides under taking its de-weeding.

The Minister was speaking at a high level meeting convened to discuss the status of various beautification and developmental projects under taken for ensuring the development of Srinagar city.

Secretary, Housing & Urban Development, Mr. Satish Nehru, Additional District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Chief Engineers of R&B, PHE and senior officers of LAWDA, Irrigation, Social Welfare and other departments were present.

The Minister asked the Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department to take immediate measures for the de-weeding of the Brari-Nambal lagoon besides, also ensuring the fencing of the left over portion is also done. He said the water body has a prime importance viz-a-viz ecology of the old city and we have to ensure that every measure is put in place for ensuring its preservation and beautification.

While asking for ensuring that the proper repairs of the Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP)of the lagoon, if needed, is also done,the Minister said that the requisite funds have also been released and engineers should ensure that it is done within the shortest possible time. He said that the officers of different departments like LAWDA, SMC and I&FC should work in complete co-ordination for ensuring that the Brari-Nambal lagoon is preserved, so that it can be developed as one of the major tourist attractions of the old city Srinagar.

Mr. Sagar directed the officers of LAWDA for ensuring the timely completion of various connecting bridges being constructed in the catchment areas of Bagh Roop Singh and other areas, so that the people living in these areas get proper connecting facilities with the main land.

The Minister also directed the officers to speed up of the pace of work on the community halls being constructed in the city and asked for starting the work on the newly taken up one at Malik Pora, Zainakadal. He said these halls provide the much needed space for the people living in Srinagar city to celebrate their social functions.

Mr. Sagar also asked the officers to ensure the timely compensation to the people whose properties have been acquired for road widening of the Syed Mirakh Shah Road Project and the construction of new Zaina Kadal Bridge.
