KU Has Turned Into Testing Ground For Pro-India Groups: KUSU

SRINAGAR: The students union of state’s highest seat of learning, the University of Kashmir, Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) has expressed concern over what it termed as “Indianisation” of educational institutions by mainstream political parties.

The union alleged that Kashmir University being the highest seat of learning continues to be the premier testing ground for India to cultivate “Indianism”.

“One of the important tactics used by India to further its occupation of Kashmir is the use of educational institutions to cultivate “Indianism”,” KUSU said in a statement, adding the foray of students’ groups in the varsity backed by pro-occupation political groups over the last few years was aimed at further choking the voice of resistance against occupation in the Varsity.

“Kashmir University has long ceased to perform its basic function of imparting quality education. It has become more of a safe ground for Indian politicians and a testing ground for Indian imperial policies,” KUSU added.

The union statement further said: “National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) after getting a stone cold response in KU last time has again started its activities with active support of the varsity administration. However, this time around, NSUI has expanded its activities to colleges, north and south campuses of KU and other universities of Kashmir.”

“Student representatives from Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora held a meeting with us in this regard and expressed their concern  about the same. We have resolved to chalk out a joint strategy against advances of India-backed student groups,” the union said.

Although university administration has apparently banned all political activities in the campus, but according to KUSU, it is blatant lie and hypocrisy. “The ban does not extend beyond our union,” KUSU said, adding that student groups such as National Students Union of India (NSUI), National Conference Students Union (NCSU), Pradesh Congress Students Union (PCSU) backed by pro-occupation parties are given a free hand to cultivate Indianism in the campus by luring students through jobs and other incentives.

KUSU said it categorically condemns the activities of pro-Indian student groups in KU as well as administration’s active support for them.

The Kashmir University Students Union also lamented on the silence of Kashmir University Teachers’ Association (KUTA) in this regard. “Their silence in this regard is shameful and reprehensible,” KUSU added.
