Srinagar: All Parties Sikh co- ordination committee Kashmir has decided to make ensure that no Sikh casts a vote for National Conference and Congress in the upcoming assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir, if the Government fails to implement National Minority act in the State.
Addressing a press conference here at Lala Rukh APSCC’s Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that the committee will launch a campaign and will ensure no Sikh are going to cast vote for the politicians of concern ruling parties in Jammu and Kashmir in the next upcoming assembly elections scheduled for 2014.
Reacting on the statements of Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others on the musical concert by Zubin Mehta in Kashmir Raina while showing his support to Hurriyat Conference said the committee is also against the musical concert in Kashmir.
Sikhs constitute a significant proportion of the electorate in eight assembly seats of Kashmir and 10 in Jammu division. Without mentioning the name of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), once Sikhs will not vote for politicians of National Conference and congress it is quite possible that both Parties would suffer heavily in the next upcoming assembly elections, he said.
APSCC strongly condemns the State Government proposal of holding back National Minority act in the State and implementing State Minorities act on that place ignoring recommendations of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and of President Pranab Mukherjee for implementing the act in the State. “This has lead to alienation of Sikhs in the state as according to him Sikhs were the most suppressed community in the State. State Government has no excuse for not implementing National Minority Status in Jammu and Kashmir as all the cost for the act are being borne by centre Government”, Jagmohan Added.
If State Minority Act is implemented in State instead of National Minority Act there are chances that some fringe group may get added to the list of minorities in Jammu and Kashmir. Raina also said despite raising this issue with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah several times still there is no relief for them on this front. “Thousands of posts are vacant in Jammu and Kashmir but State Government is doing nothing to fill these posts not only among minorities but unemployment is even growing among the majority group as well”, he added.
Committee has urged the State Government for implementing the act in the State immediately otherwise Sikhs will launch a campaign against such politicians who are acting as stumbling blocks in the implementation of this act in the State. He also urged administration to revise the electoral rolls of those Sikhs who left valley during turmoil. He said revision of electoral rolls could not be banned just because one was compelled to leave the State and if he is now returning his electoral role it will not be revised.KNS
