Consignment of Coughrex Seized

Srinagar: According to controller, Drug and Food control Organization J&K Srinagar, a team of the organization laid Naka at several entry points of the State and detained a consignment of Coughrex batch no: AP-2895 manufactured by Apple field International Poanta sahib marketed by Pureca Labs, Pvt. Ltd Maharashtra at Lakhanpur Check post.

The consignment comprising of 1600 x 100 Ml bottles valuing Rs. 1,42, 400/-   was seized by Drug Inspector, Lakhnapur. The consignment was bound for consignee M/s Rare Syndicate, Baghesunder, Karan Nagar, Srinagar and was booked through Chinar roadways vide Builty no:- 60834. The truck driver of vehicle bearing registration no:- HR-55R0485 could not produce purchase records of the above drug and in turn produced invoice no:- 529, dated:- 22-08-2013 raised by M/s Rohit Medicose, Baghirath Palace, Delhi.Preliminary investigation in the matter reveals that the drug was being transported by adopting unfair means . The bill raised pertained to general medicines viz. Levocetrizine, multivitamins etc and in its ambit the seized drug was being pushed into the state.

The operation was carried out successfully with the active cooperation of commercial tax authorities posted at Lakhanpur and Assistant Controller, Drugs Samba/Kathua. The detailed investigation in the matter shall further expose the nexus and action warranted under law shall be initiated against involved persons and company.

It is pertinent to mention that the seized consignment contains codeine phosphate 10 mg per ML as one of the ingredients and being a opiod analgesic, the mis-users resort to the drug for its hypnotic effects, and also the users there after suffer from its withdrawal syndrome.

OUTLETS CLOSED 

Licensing Authority Srinagar,  Mohammad Younis suspended operation of four establishments located in the vicinity of Iqbal Park, Srinagar for contravening various provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetic Act, 1940 and Rules there under. The operation of these medical shops namely M/s Delhi Medicate, M/s Angel Pharmacy, M/s Haleem Pharmacy and M/s Medical times was disallowed for two to five days.

According to the press release the exercise was to curb the influx of drugs containing habit forming ingredients from neighboring States and preventing further use of intoxication by adolescents.
