Massive Congregations In Mosques, Shrines Seek Blessings
SRINAGAR: Close to a hundred thousand pilgrims paid respects at the Hazratbal shrine here on Friday to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), even as large gatherings were witnessed in other places of worship across the Valley for the joyous occasion.
Today also being the day of the weekly congregational prayer, the fervour, festivity and reverence had multiplied for the devout who turned out with hope, and sought the occasion’s blessings during obligatory prayers.
A huge Friday congregation at the central Jamia Masjid recited praise of the Last Messenger (pbuh) and heard sermons on his blessed life.
After a night-long vigil at Hazratbal, the dawn service was a moving experience as congregations swayed to lilting hymns with uplifted hands.
The sight of the Holy Relic, displayed from a balcony, put congregations into ecstasy, chants in praise of the Prophet (pbuh) rising from the multitude.
With tears of love and reverence streaming down their faces, the devout, young and old, men and women, across Kashmir spoke their inner beings to their Creator, seeking forgiveness in the name of the Prophet’s grace.
They had come with their fears, apprehensions and troubles, asking the Almighty to ease their afflictions in this world and grant them peace in the next.
They also came with their hopes and aspirations, seeking guidance in their lives, and nobility and honour in their words and deeds.
In the name of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) they beseeched their Lord for blessings and plenty for themselves and their progeny.
The childless prayed for offspring, students for success, and mothers for the honour, long lives, and well-being of their children.
Prayers rose from the multitudes to grant them just and fair rulers, untainted by corruption, moral turpitude and greed.
In mosques and shrines, ulama and imams in all parts of the valley delivered Friday sermons revolving around the conduct and teachings of the Holy Prophet.
The Noble Messenger’s keepsakes housed at many religious places were displayed for the devout after prayers, with gatherings immersed in recitation and invocation.
As usual, the government had made arrangements for transport, sanitation, power and other essentials to facilitate gatherings, particularly at Hazratbal.
Pilgrims had poured in from different parts of the Valley in busses and private cars following exclusive routes publicised by traffic authorities.
