Rs 2.16 crore incentive to Saffron Growers of Budgam 

BUDGAM: Minister for Agriculture, Gh. Hassan Mir, today emphasized the need for preservation of traditional saffron besides enhancing its quantity and quality. 

This was stated by the Minister after distributing first installment of incentive of Rs. 2.16 crore among 2289 saffron growers of Budgam district, who have participated in rejuvenation of Saffron Corms under National Mission on Saffron at Sheikh-ul-Aalam Hall Budgam this year. 

The Minister called upon Saffron Growers to adopt intensive production technology to restore pristine glory of this heritage industry of the state. He said that under National Mission on Saffron, the Government is providing various incentives to the farmers for enhancing quality production of Saffron. He called upon the growers to coordinate with the Agriculture Department for getting optimum benefit of such vital programmes. He said that Spice Park worth Rs. 22 crore is being setup under the Mission that would provide online national & international market facilities to the growers at doorsteps besides providing quality control facilities to them.

On this occasion, District Development Commissioner, Khursheed Ahmad, Joint Director Inputs, K.A. Kasba and Chief Agriculture Officer, M.A. Parray gave a detailed resume of implementation of National Mission in the district.
