JKP Lifts Christmas Gold Cup Football Trophy

JAMMU: Minister of State for Information Technology, Science Technology and Youth Services and Sports, Feroz Ahmad Khan, today said that sports develops discipline besides ensuring a strong mind and body to the sportsperson which is pre requisite for creating a healthy and harmonious society.

The Minister said this after witnessing final match of 7th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament played at Mini Sports Stadium Parade this afternoon which was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Christian Welfare Association (JKCWA).

The Minister said that there is dire need for popularizing sports culture among youth so that future of the state becomes strong. “ Only a healthy generation, both physically and mentally, can face the impending challenges of today’s globalized era”, he added.

Giving a resume of the steps initiated by the present government in encouraging sports culture in the state, Khan said that a network of playing fields and sports stadia are being constructed with focus on rural and far off parts. Besides, the existing sports facilities are also being upgraded for providing sports infrastructural facilities along with necessary equipments.

Exhorting youth to take part in sports activities and avail benefit of the schemes launched by the Centre and State governments, the Minister said that the sports alone can produce a complete healthy person, both physically and mentally. He said that various schemes are underway to provide all sports facilities in all District and Tehsil headquarters for the budding youth.

As many as, 24 teams of Jammu division participated in the tournament and the J&K Police won the final match by 2-0 goals which was played here today.

Among others, Additional Director General of Police Armed, K. Rajindra, DIG Armed, Jhoney Wiliam, DIG Police, Phansuk, President JKCWA, S. M. Gill, Chairperson Tiny Tots and Honda College, Veena Honda, International level football players, Presidents of Football Association and a large number of football lovers witnessed the match.

Later, the Minister presented winner’s trophy to the J&K police team and trophies and mementos to the runner ups.
