Share

Srinagar, Sept 26: Police today foiled an attempt by SMHPW to gherao the Old Secretariat here to press their demand for action against the authorities accused of bribery during declaration of results of nursing trainees. At least half a dozen apron-clad protesters, including some women, were injured in the baton charge.

According to reports hundreds of trainees of various nursing colleges took out a protest rally in Lal Chowk area and proceeded to the Directorate of Health Services here to seek action against the officials who had delayed the announcement of their results for nine months and allegedly declared those of the students as successful who had paid bribes up to Rs 20,000.

Talking to reporters, the protesters the authorities had failed the trainees who had failed to pay them the bribe.

“We didn’t pay bribe and we were declared unsuccessful,” they alleged, adding that candidates who were declared qualified after they paid the bribe did not have enough merit for the purpose. The protesters appealed the higher authorities to intervene in the interest of justice. (KNS)
